NCATE reacts to DOE report on teacher preparation

NCATE is saying what unions have said for years.

Responding to the Secretary of EducationŐs interpretation of Title II data on teacher preparation, NCATE rejects government conclusions, saying the DOE is perpetuating a myth about poor teacher preparation programs. The NCATE response says the report asks states to revamp licensing requirements to reduce the number of teacher preparation courses required for licensure.

It follows the lines of Rick Hess' paper, 'Tear Down This Wall,' which advocates eliminating requirements for teacher preparation and replacing them with a background check and a test of content knowledge.

The report supports the deregulation and deprofessionalization agenda advocated by a vocal minority.

The report contains a statement about a poll that shows the public supports better pay and working conditions for teachers.

, "Title II Reports on the Quality of Teacher Preparation":

that refutes the Bush report line by line (the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development).
